Almost every New Yorker rides the subway regularly, and we all know that the service has deteriorated in the last decade even as the cost of fares have increased nearly 50%. Trains are more crowded and delays are far more common. The MTA has not maintained and improved the subway to keep pace with the growth and needs of New Yorkers. This must change.
One way to greatly increase ridership capacity is to install an updated signal system in the subway. The MTA’s signal system relies on old technology and replacing the system will increase system capacity by 30% by allowing more trains to run at any one time. By raising taxes on incomes over $500,000 and businesses making more than $2 million, Collin will drastically increase funding to the MTA to modernize the subway system.
